Much of Surprise, including neighborhoods around Sun City Grand, is part of Arizona's Legislative District 29 (LD29). That means Surprise voters help choose LD29's state senator on November 3, 2026, and Eric Stafford is running to be that senator.

A city that is outgrowing its infrastructure
Surprise has grown from roughly 30,000 residents in 2000 to more than 140,000 at the 2020 Census, making it one of the fastest-growing cities in Arizona. New subdivisions, warehouses and data-center proposals keep arriving faster than the roads, water supply and schools that have to support them.
Eric believes growth has to work for the people who already live here, not just developers. That means putting water and utility infrastructure first, giving neighbors a real voice on major projects, and making sure new development includes homes working families can actually afford.
Retirees and families in Sun City Grand and beyond
Surprise is home to both young families and retirees, and both are feeling the cost of living. Eric supports lowering prescription drug costs through state bulk purchasing and price-transparency laws, protecting coverage for pre-existing conditions, and expanding access to affordable care through AHCCCS.
What Eric will fight for in Surprise
- Put water and utility infrastructure first before approving new large-scale development
- Give residents a real say on major projects, including proposed data centers
- Expand West Valley transit options like buses and light rail to ease traffic on Bell Road and Grand Avenue
- Crack down on corporate landlords and support first-time homebuyers
- Lower prescription drug and healthcare costs for retirees and families
