Legislative District 29 (LD29) is one of Arizona's 30 legislative districts. It covers parts of Surprise, El Mirage, Glendale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park and Peoria, plus the unincorporated communities of Wittmann and Morristown, all in Maricopa County's northwest West Valley. Its voters elect one state senator and two state representatives every two years.

The 2026 State Senate race in LD29
On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, LD29 voters will choose their state senator. The race is between Democratic nominee Eric Stafford and Republican incumbent Sen. Janae Shamp.
Eric is a lifelong Arizonan, a certified A&P mechanic and machinist, and a Clean Elections candidate who takes no PAC or dark money. A short history of LD29
Since 2000, when voters approved Proposition 106, Arizona's legislative maps have been drawn by the five-member Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission instead of the Legislature. The commission redraws all 30 districts after every census.
Before 2022, the number 29 belonged to a very different place. From 2013 through 2022, Legislative District 29 covered west Phoenix, including much of Maryvale, and part of Glendale. It was represented in the Senate by Martín Quezada (2015–2023) and in the House by lawmakers including Richard Andrade and César Chávez.
After the 2020 Census, the commission redrew the map. The new lines, finalized in early 2022, moved LD29 to the fast-growing northwest West Valley. The 2022 election was the first under the new district, and Janae Shamp won the Senate seat. In 2024, Eric Stafford ran as the Democratic nominee and earned 48,608 votes (40.7%).
